Why Florida Is One of the Best Places to Shoot Family Content

By the FAM | Florida Family & Kids Casting Experts

When brands and production companies are deciding where to shoot family content, Florida keeps coming up. It is not just because of the sunshine, although that helps. It is because Florida offers a combination of things that are genuinely difficult to find anywhere else in one place: the lifestyle, the locations, the diversity, the production infrastructure, and the families who actually live here and embody all of it naturally.

Here is why Florida is one of the strongest choices a brand can make for family content production, and why South Florida specifically is a market worth knowing.

The Lifestyle Is the Product

Florida does not just provide a backdrop for family content. It provides the lifestyle that family content is trying to sell. Year round warmth, outdoor living, resort culture, beaches, waterways, theme parks, family destinations, all of it is woven into the daily life of the families who live here. When a brand shoots here, the environment is not a set. It is the real thing.

From a production standpoint, Florida offers more shooting days than almost any other market in the country. Outside of the summer rainy season, roughly June through September, the weather is predictable and ideal for outdoor production. Even during the summer months, afternoon storms are typically brief, clearing quickly and leaving the rest of the day workable. There is no snow, no cold weather, and more daylight year round than most production markets can offer. For brands planning campaigns, that kind of reliability has real value.

For apparel brands especially, this is a significant advantage. Spring and summer collections, swimwear, outdoor lifestyle content, anything that requires warm weather and natural light can be shot here at any time of year. A brand based in New York cannot shoot a summer campaign in February at home. In Florida they can, with the right locations, the right light, and the right families already here

Three Major Markets, One State

Florida is not one market. It is several, each with its own identity, its own consumer culture, and its own distinct visual language. Understanding which market you are shooting in, and why, makes a meaningful difference in the content you produce.

Miami is energy, culture, and diversity. The city's Latin, Caribbean, and international communities make it one of the most visually dynamic and culturally rich markets in the country. For brands that want content with an urban pulse, a multicultural family landscape, and a distinctly South Florida edge, Miami delivers.

Orlando is family entertainment at its most concentrated. Home to some of the most visited theme parks and family destinations in the world, Orlando attracts both local families and visitors from across the country. Brands in hospitality, family entertainment, consumer goods, and lifestyle shoot here consistently, and the commercial production market has seen significant investment in recent years with Orange County committing $25 million over five years to rebuild its production incentive program.

Palm Beach County is in a category of its own. It is not Miami and it is not Orlando. It has a distinct identity built on legacy, community trust, elevated lifestyle, and a very specific kind of refined but grounded family culture that exists nowhere else in the state. Palm Beach County generated a record $260 million in production spend in 2025, its fourth consecutive year of record-breaking production spending, attracting national brands, streaming productions, and commercial shoots from across the country. The Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission provides free one-stop permitting across 50-plus municipalities, making the logistics of getting a shoot off the ground significantly more streamlined than in many other markets.

The communities along the southeast corridor, Jupiter, Hobe Sound, Stuart, Vero Beach, bring their own deep rooted local identity to the table. Brands that want to speak to this market need talent that actually belongs to it.

Location Variety Within a Compact Area

One of the most practical advantages of shooting in South Florida is the density of location variety. Within 45 minutes, production crews can access pristine beaches, dense urban landscapes, luxury waterfront properties, tropical vegetation, and modern commercial districts.

For family content this matters. A brand can shoot a resort sequence, an outdoor family activity scene, a neighborhood moment, and an upscale dining experience all within the same production day and the same geographic area. That range of visual storytelling without traveling between cities or states is a genuine competitive advantage.

The Child Talent Landscape Is More Production Friendly

For brands and productions new to working with child talent, Florida is a more straightforward market than New York or California when it comes to regulatory requirements. While Florida has guidelines and protections in place for minor talent, the permit requirements and specific account requirements for minors are less complex than in the two largest production markets in the country. This means less administrative friction for both families and productions, faster timelines, and a smoother path to getting the right talent on set.

For brands that have found the regulatory landscape in other markets cumbersome, Florida is worth knowing about.

The Families Here Are the Real Thing

Florida is home to one of the most genuinely diverse family landscapes in the country. Multiracial families, multilingual households, multigenerational units, families across a wide range of backgrounds, lifestyles, and communities, all living here and reflecting the full breadth of what the American family actually looks like today.

When a brand shoots family content in Florida with local families, they are not assembling a version of diversity. They are casting from a community where that diversity is the lived reality. The families who grew up here, who are raising their children here, and who spend their weekends at the beach or the resort down the road, bring an ease and authenticity to content that cannot be manufactured elsewhere.

For brands that want content which reflects the real endless summer lifestyle and the real American family landscape, the families are already here.
